Aluminium / Titanium components

Aircraft Philipp (ACP) has been specializing in the machining of complex structural components made from aluminium and titanium for several decades. In addition to the challenges involved in processing, improving our materials input to achieve the most efficient material utilization (buy-to-fly ratio) and optimizing the value chain play important roles.

Plates, forgings, profiles, bars and castings made from aluminium, titanium or steel are used as primary materials.

Our machining operations employ highly efficient processes and modern, high-performance equipment, some of which has been specially adapted to our applications and has 3/4/5-axis machining capabilities. Complex component geometries and large dimensions are our specialty. We process parts with lengths of up to 7 meters.

The parts are machined in Germany (Übersee, Karlsruhe) or at the site of our strategic partner Sansera Engineering in India.

Aircraft Philipp has over 60 years of experience in machining aluminium, titanium and other metallic materials.

Machining of aluminium

Aluminium has been the principal material used in the construction of aircraft and spacecraft for many decades. Offering high strength at low weight and good corrosion resistance, aluminium delivers top performance in structural components for the fuselage and wings of modern aircraft. These qualities, coupled with its excellent recyclability, ensure that aluminium will continue to play a key role in the future.

As part of the AMAG Group (Ranshofen, Austria), Aircraft Philipp is an integral part of the value creation process, from aluminium feedstock (primary aluminium, alloying metals, aluminium scrap) to ready-to-install components. Thanks to its long-standing experience as a qualified manufacturer of semi-finished products for leading aircraft manufacturers, AMAG is a preferred supplier of high-quality aluminium aerospace materials. The provision of contour-sawed plates from Ranshofen means that significantly less material is used, and allows the solid scrap generated during production to be recycled directly by the AMAG foundry. Similarly, the aluminium chips produced in the course of mechanical processing at Aircraft Philipp are separated by alloy and fed back into the production process, allowing them to be reprocessed into high-quality rolled products. By closing this materials cycle (closed loop), the AMAG Group is contributing to a reduction in the buy-to-fly ratio and thus to a smaller carbon footprint.

Machining of titanium

Titanium is a valuable material that has become an indispensable part of modern aircraft and spacecraft thanks to its strength, corrosion resistance and low weight. Structural parts made from titanium meet the most stringent mechanical requirements, for example in engine suspensions, landing gear components and wing suspension parts. Titanium is also used in high-temperature applications.
